Line and Grade Surveyor Job Description

Position Title: Line and Grade Surveyor

Job Summary:

The Line and Grade Surveyor is responsible for establishing and verifying the alignment, elevation, and positioning of construction works in accordance with design drawings, plans, and specifications. The role ensures that all structures, foundations, and site works are accurately set out and constructed within required tolerances.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct line and grade surveys to establish reference points, benchmarks, and layout controls.
  • Perform precise setting-out for structural, architectural, and civil works (e.g., foundations, columns, roads, drainage).
  • Check and verify existing control points and coordinate with the engineering team for any discrepancies.
  • Ensure accuracy in elevation, alignment, and dimensions during all stages of construction.
  • Prepare and maintain survey records, field notes, and as-built data.
  • Coordinate with site engineers and foremen regarding layout and design interpretation.
  • Assist in verifying subcontractor works and quantities for progress reporting and billing.
  • Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments such as total stations, theodolites, and levels.
  • Ensure all survey works comply with safety, quality, and project standards.

Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience in construction surveying (preferably in line and grade works).
  • Proficient in using Total Station, Auto Level, GPS, and other surveying equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and plans.
  • Skilled in using AutoCAD or other survey data processing software is an advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently on site.
  • Willing to be assigned or relocated to project sites as needed.
