Job Description

A Chief Mate on a Supramax vessel is the second-in-command on the ship, holding a senior position after the Captain. They are responsible for the overall management of the deck department, including cargo operations, deck machinery, and the vessel's safety. The Chief Mate also acts as the head of various departments, such as cargo, safety, and security.

Skills and Qualifications:

To qualify as a Chief Mate on a Supramax bulk carrier, candidates typically need to meet specific requirements related to experience, education, and certifications, in accordance with international maritime regulations (STCW). A key requirement is a valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) as a Chief Mate, obtained after completing the necessary training and assessments.
