Technical Knowledge, Special Trainings and Work Experience

  • Has experience working in the Philippine energy industry and are familiar with the overall industry history, structure, regulatory environment, and key market participants (e.g., generation companies, ERC, DOE, NGCP, PEMC, etc.).
  • Can lead research, market analysis, and/or strategic planning within the context of the Philippine energy sector. Candidates should have the ability to conduct both desktop and field research and be able to travel to project sites within the Philippines.

Should demonstrate their ability to:

  • Collect, sort, analyze, and interpret complex market data and synthesize such data into meaningful and actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Communicate and present ideas clearly and succinctly.
  • Convey findings/conclusions/recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Conduct market research to provide senior management a comprehensive, data-driven understanding of the competitive landscape within the Philippine energy sector. Successful candidates are expected compile, organize, summarize, and interpret data which are essential to understanding the competitive landscape.

Such data includes:

  • Data regularly published by the Department of Energy, such as list of awarded service contracts, list of existing power plants, green energy auction timelines & capacities, results of green energy auction
  • Issuances (advisories, orders, decisions, etc.) released by the ERC
  • Issuances and publications released by the NGCP (such as the Transmission Development Plan, results of ASPA CSPs), IEMOP, and TransCo.
  • Data regularly published by private distribution utilities, such as: power supply procurement plan, upcoming CSPs, prior CSP outcomes, etc.
  • News publications
  • Augment above market research with active investigative efforts to monitor competitors' progress on energy projects through primary research (e.g., site visits and word-of-mouth information).
  • Monitor and report on the development stages of renewable energy projects among competitors, assessing their impact on supply dynamics and WESM prices.
  • Travel extensively to visit solar and wind farm sites, gather data on project advancements, and verify stages of development.
  • Represent ACEN, as may be necessary, in industry associations and events/forums hosted by government/regulatory agencies, trade shows, and other related forums/events.
  • Able to develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the competitive landscape by synthesizing public information vis-à-vis primary research, and understanding key market drivers, regulatory changes, and technological advancements that could impact ACEN's overall competitive positioning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including strategy, operations, and finance, to provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations that summarize research findings, market trends, and competitive intelligence to inform senior management and guide decision-making processes.
