Warehouse Picker

• Major Function

Picker's major function is to accurately and efficiently retrieve items from warehouse storage to fulfill customer orders. They must use a physical picklist or document to locate the correct products and quantities, ensuring the items are free of damage and of good quality based on Red Ribbon standards. Picker's role is crucial for preparing orders for dispatch while maintaining inventory accuracy through diligent physical verification.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Picker's primary tool is a physical or printed picklist. They must be able to read and accurately interpret the information on this picklist, which includes the following:

a. Item Code

b. Item Description

c. Quantities to be picked

d. Consume Before Date

• Picker is responsible for knowing the layout of the warehouse and efficiently navigating to the correct locations to find the items on their picklist. This requires a good sense of spatial awareness and organization.

• Pickers physically retrieves the specified items from their designated storage locations. This often involves walking, bending, reaching, and lifting products of various sizes and weights.

• Pickers must manually verify that the product they have picked matches the item number and description on their picklist. They also need to perform a quick visual inspection to ensure the product is not damaged or defective. Any discrepancies or quality issues must be reported to a supervisor.

• After picking the items, the picker is responsible for documenting the transaction. This could involve manually marking off items on the picklist as they already picked, writing down a new quantity if a full order cannot be fulfilled, or filling out a separate form for quality control. This paperwork is then used to update inventory records.

• Once all items for an order have been picked, the picker consolidates them in a pallet. They may then be responsible for preparing the order for the next step, such as moving the items to staging areas for dispatch. This can involve manually wrapping pallets or securing boxes.

• Pickers close interaction with the products makes them a key part of inventory management. They are often the first to notice misplaced items, incorrect stock counts, or an empty bin. Their duties also include maintaining a clean and orderly work area, returning unused equipment, and reporting any safety hazards.
