Observability Engineer

Job Description:

Ensures full application and infrastructure observability by designing and maintaining dashboards, log pipelines, metrics, and alerting systems. Works with a variety of open-source and cloud-native observability solutions (like Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, OpenTelemetry, or cloud-native stacks), adapting to the evolving technology stack.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain dashboards, alerts, logging pipelines, and metrics collection systems.

  • Integrate observability into backend, infrastructure, and container-based services.

  • Improve visibility into system performance, errors, and reliability.

  • Define and refine meaningful SLIs, SLOs, and health metrics.

  • Tune alert thresholds to reduce noise and improve on-call response.

  • Ensure logs, metrics, traces, and alerts are consistent and actionable across environments.

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to embed observability best practices."

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with observability concepts (monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting, tracing).

  • Ability to design and implement observability solutions using a range of tools and platforms.

  • Ability to troubleshoot backend and distributed systems using observability data.

  • Familiarity with Linux, containers, and CI/CD environments.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new observability tools and technologies as needed.

Strong Plus

  • Experience with distributed tracing and log/metric optimization (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Zipkin, Tempo).

  • Experience with observability stacks like Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, ELK/Elastic Stack, or cloud-native tools (AWS CloudWatch, GCP Monitoring, Azure Monitor).

  • Integrating observability with CI/CD workflows.

  • SRE practices (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident workflows).

  • Experience with large-scale or cloud-native environments."
