A shift engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of machinery and equipment during their assigned shift by performing maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and responding to repairs. They also ensure safety compliance, maintain operational records, and collaborate with other departments and team members to minimize downtime and improve efficiency. Key responsibilities

  • Equipment maintenance and repair: Conduct routine inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and carry out reactive repairs on machinery, electrical systems, plumbing, and HVAC equipment.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues that arise during the shift, prioritizing urgent problems to minimize downtime.
  • Safety and compliance: Ensure all work is performed according to health, safety, and operational standards and procedures. This includes monitoring safety systems like fire alarms.
  • Operational support: Monitor operating parameters, oversee production, and ensure equipment runs efficiently to meet production quotas and standards.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and work orders for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Team and contractor coordination: Collaborate with other departments, assist specialist subcontractors, and manage or guide maintenance staff and technicians.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, evenings, and weekends.
