About the Role

Our client is a leading energy company managing a growing portfolio of coal-fired power plants. They are seeking a highly skilled Risk and Insurance Officer to support enterprise risk management, operational risk assessments, and insurance strategy across both existing operations and new power plant developments.

This role is ideal for an experienced risk professional with solid exposure to industrial energy assets, particularly coal-fired plants. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and resilient operations across multiple sites.

What You'll Do
Portfolio Risk Management
  • Drive the implementation of the company-wide ERM Framework across all coal plants, offices, and development projects.
  • Maintain and oversee the Thermal Risk Register, ensuring timely updates and effective monitoring.
  • Facilitate site-specific and portfolio-wide risk assessments (operational, financial, regulatory, environmental, reputational).
  • Support risk evaluation during feasibility, permitting, construction, and new plant development phases.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and legal teams to embed risk controls into plant design and processes.
  • Consolidate site-level risks into a comprehensive portfolio report and identify emerging risks.
  • Conduct annual Risk Management 101 training and support ERM activities across the portfolio.
Insurance Strategy & Management
  • Assist in designing and managing insurance programs for property, machinery breakdown, BI, liability, environmental exposures, and construction risks.
  • Handle insurance administrative requirements and support claims management.
  • Monitor insurance market and regulatory trends relevant to coal-fired power operations.
Operational Risk & Governance
  • Partner with plant managers and EHS teams to mitigate risks related to fuel handling, emissions control, safety, and combustion systems.
  • Conduct periodic risk audits, incident investigations, and ensure alignment with corporate standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for risk assessments, insurance policies, and claims.
  • Support internal/external audits and regulatory reporting, including Risk Compliance Plans for DOE.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Organize Pillar Risk Committee meetings with the ERM team.
  • Advise senior leadership on portfolio-wide insurance and risk exposure.
  • Build strong relationships with brokers, insurers, regulators, and internal plant teams.
  • Train site teams on risk and insurance protocols.
What We're Looking For
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
  • Certifications such as ISO 31000, ARM, CRM are highly preferred.
Experience
  • 5–10 years of experience in risk and insurance management.
  • Minimum 3 years in the energy, industrial, or heavy infrastructure sector.
  • Strong experience in coal-fired power plant risk management is essential.
