
Accounts Officer

The Accounts Officer is responsible for providing end-to-end accounting support for a restaurant group's New Zealand operations. This remote position involves managing day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, overseeing weekly payroll, reconciling delivery platform transactions, preparing regular reports, and collaborating with the Accounts Manager and restaurant leadership to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial records. The ideal candidate has solid experience with New Zealand accounting standards, strong skills in Excel and Xero, and the discipline to work independently in a fast-paced, fully remote environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Accounting & Reporting
- Record and post all AP/AR transactions and journals in Xero
- Prepare supplier invoices for 20th-of-month authorisation and batch payments
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly revenue & expenditure variance analysis
- Support month- and year-end close, including accruals and reconciliations
Tax Compliance
- Assist the Accounts Manager with GST, payroll and withholding filings to NZ IRD
- Ensure adherence to McDonald's NZ financial reporting requirements
Payroll Administration
- Process weekly payroll for review and sign-off
- Maintain strict compliance with current NZ labour legislation and wage rules
Delivery & Refund Reconciliation
- Perform daily and weekly reconciliation of delivery-partner sales
Investigate variances and prepare error and refund reports for stakeholders
Continuous Stakeholder Communication & Meetings
- Participate in weekly WIP, mid-month, and monthly finance meetings
- Liaise with restaurant managers, vendors, and customers on account queries
Collaboration & Compliance & Workplace Safety
- Uphold safe working practices and promptly report any risks or concerns
Knowledge
- NZ accounting principles, GST, and payroll regulations
- Xero (or similar cloud accounting) and advanced Excel functions
- Familiarity with multi-unit hospitality or QSR operations is a plus
Skills
- Accurate data entry and reconciliation
- Financial reporting, budgeting, and cash-flow forecasting
- Clear written and verbal communication with cross-functional teams
Abilities
- Work autonomously, meeting strict weekly and monthly deadlines
- Detect and resolve discrepancies with minimal supervision
- Maintain confidentiality and professional judgement in all financial matters
- Desktop/Laptop with minimum Intel i5 (or equivalent) processor and Windows 10 OS.
- Minimum 8 GB RAM
- Stable internet connection (≥ 50 Mbps)
- Working headset & camera for virtual meetings
- Dedicated, quiet home-office workspace
