An Inventory Custodian Supervisor oversees and manages all inventory control processes, ensuring accurate and efficient tracking, storage, and movement of goods. This role involves leading and developing the inventory team, implementing and enforcing company policies, and optimizing inventory accuracy to support overall business operations. - Team leadership and supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the inventory team, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing guidance.
- Train new team members on inventory procedures, safety protocols, and proper equipment use.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and address personnel issues, such as attendance or conduct problems.
- Inventory control and accuracy:
- Develop, implement, and maintain inventory control policies and procedures to minimize loss, discrepancies, and costs.
- Oversee and perform regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to ensure accuracy between physical stock and system records.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in inventory counts, and analyze data to identify the root cause of issues.
- Operations management:
- Manage and track the entire inventory lifecycle, including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping of materials.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with purchasing or procurement teams for timely replenishment to prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the stockroom or warehouse to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Reporting and analysis:
- Utilize inventory management software and ERP systems to monitor stock levels, track orders, and generate inventory reports for management.
- Analyze inventory data to identify trends, forecast future needs, and make recommendations for process improvements and cost savings.
- Prepare and maintain documentation on inventory transactions, shipping, and receiving.
- Cross-functional coordination:
- Collaborate with other departments, such as logistics, sales, and production, to ensure a timely and accurate flow of goods.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products.
Qualifications and skills
- Experience: Proven experience in inventory management or a related field, with prior experience in a supervisory or team lead position.
- Technical skills:
- Proficiency with inventory management software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for reporting and data analysis.
- Familiarity with warehouse equipment, such as barcode scanners, and safety protocols.
- Soft skills:
- Strong leadership, team management, and motivational skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Education: with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field often preferred.
