General Accounting Supervisor

Job Description

The General Accounting Officer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting unit. This role ensures accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, adherence to accounting policies, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The position also supervises staff involved in the general ledger process, month-end and year-end closings, financial analysis, and tax compliance, while supporting internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities:

1. General Ledger & Financial Reporting

• Supervise and review the posting of journal entries for prepayments, accruals, payroll, adjustments, reclassifications, and other General Ledger transactions.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all journal entries are accurate, complete, and timely.
• Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring proper recording and classification of all transactions.
• Assist in the preparation of internal management reports, highlighting financial performance, variances, and key metrics.
• Ensure proper coding of expenses and revenues according to the chart of accounts and accounting policies.

2. Audit and External Reporting

• Coordinate with internal and external auditors, ensuring timely preparation and submission of required documentation.
• Provide audit support by responding to inquiries, preparing audit schedules, and validating financial records and reports.

3. Tax Preparation and Compliance

• Assist in preparing and computing tax returns and regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
• Maintain proper documentation and filing of tax-related records, including supporting schedules and reports.

4. Internal Controls

• Monitor compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and internal corporate policies.
• Support the enhancement and implementation of internal controls related to financial reporting

5. Financial Analysis

• Identify and communicate financial issues and discrepancies to the Assistant Accounting Manager.
• Provide support in budgeting and financial analysis to aid in management decision-making.

6. Team Supervision and Development

• Supervise and guide the General Accounting team to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
• Review work performed by team members for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
• Assign tasks and monitor workloads to ensure timely completion of responsibilities, including month-end and year-end closings.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented team environment.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and development opportunities.

7. Other Supporting Accounting Functions:

• Prepare ad hoc financial and management reports as required.
• Perform other accounting-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Key Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in accountancy, Management Accounting, or a related field.
2. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred but not required.
3. At least 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory accounting role.
4. Solid understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations, especially those relevant to financing companies.
5. Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate the general accounting team.
6. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, tax authorities).
8. Willingness to stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, tax laws, and financial reporting practices.
9. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (e.g., formulas, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
