Automotive Lead Technician Level 3 – Role Overview
Position Summary:

The Automotive Lead Technician Level 3 is a senior-level technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of vehicles. This role often includes leadership responsibilities such as mentoring junior technicians, ensuring quality control, and occasionally interfacing with customers or service advisors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Diagnostics & Repair:

  • Perform complex diagnostics on engine, transmission, electrical, suspension, and brake systems.

  • Use OEM and aftermarket scan tools, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic software.

  • Leadership & Mentoring:

  • Assist in training and mentoring Level 1 and 2 technicians.

  • Provide guidance on best practices and troubleshooting.

  • Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer standards.

  • Test-drive vehicles before and after repairs.

  • Shop Support:

  • Help manage workflow and distribute jobs.

  • Collaborate with service advisors to communicate repair status and recommendations.

  • Documentation:

  • Accurately complete repair orders and write up diagnostic findings.

  • Maintain records of parts used, labor time, and test results.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: 5–10+ years of hands-on automotive repair experience.

  • Certifications:

  • ASE Master Technician preferred.

  • OEM certifications (e.g., Ford, GM, Toyota) a plus.

  • Skills:

  • Proficient in reading wiring diagrams and service manuals.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Tools: Must own a complete set of hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
