STAFF NURSE
The incumbent is directly responsible for the care of the patient within the assigned area. The Senior Nurse supervises the activities of the Staff Nurse.
Give direct nursing care.
Identify nursing needs of the patient.
Plan, give and evaluate nursing care.
Admit patients.
Assist patient in moving, maintaining proper alignment of patient's body and utilizing good body mechanics.
Take and record vital signs.
Observe medical and surgical aseptic technique.
Ensure patient safety.
Observe signs and symptoms, institute remedial action when appropriate and record observations in the patient's chart and report to the attending physician.
Prepare patient for, and assist physicians with, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Carry out doctor's legal orders.
Assist physician when examining patients.
Perform IV insertion, irrigation and catheterizations.
Administer and chart medications and patient's reactions to the administered medications.
Check, receive and endorse equipment, instruments and supplies.
Instruct patients and families.
See to it that equipment and instruments receive proper care and maintenance.
Perform post-mortem care.
Teach and direct non-professional nursing personnel.
Interpret hospital policies and procedures.
Act as senior nurse when delegated.
Give health teachings.
Maintain good relationship with other hospital personnel.
Chart accurately medications and treatments given.
Attend meeting and conferences.
Perform duties in accordance to the procedures of the department where the incumbent may be assigned.
