Job Description

As a Network Engineer - Operations, you will design, test, secure, and optimize network systems to ensure top-notch performance and reliability. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot issues, and implement upgrades-while maintaining the highest standards of security and service.

Shift: Day Shift (Monday to Thursday: 9:00 PM - 6:00 AM ET, Sunday: 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM ET or Tuesday to Friday: 9:00 PM - 6:00 AM ET, Saturday: 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM ET)

• Competency and experience in Microsoft Office and ability to learn Smart City Telecom proprietary software

• Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and excellent problem-solving skills
• Exceptional customer service skills with an ability to explain complex situations in simple terms

• Possess a proactive, rather than reactive, attitude within the team through mentoring and knowledge sharing

• Must be able to work flexible hours, as needed, when on-call duty demands
• Advanced knowledge of network theory, including OSPF, BGP, IS-IS MPLS and VXLAN protocols
• Advanced knowledge of underlay/overlay networking concepts like L2/L3 VPN
• Must have an obsessive attention to detail when authoring technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and SOPs for operational teams
• Fundamental knowledge of version control systems such as Git
• Fundamental knowledge of cyber security terminology, concepts, trends, and hacking techniques

Other Requirements

• 4-5 years' experience installing, configuring, and securing Cisco IOS-XE/IOS-XR, Ciena SAOS, and Calix EXA/AXOS networks
• 4-5 years' experience troubleshooting network and system failures while establishing paths to resolution
• 4-5 years' experience installing, changing, and securing Linux system environments
• 2-3 years' experience with security system design and configuration
• 2-3 years' experience with Python, Ansible, and Ansible Tower/AWX for network/system automation
• 1-2 years' experience installing and/or troubleshooting SD-WAN environments
• 1-2 years' experience operating analytics platforms, including Zabbix, Elasticsearch, NetBrain, and Arbor Sightline
• 1-2 years' experience working with structured data, including JSON, XML, YAML, and CSV
• Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in ISP and/or Telecommunications
• Network, Linux, and/or cybersecurity certifications desired

Must Have Experience

• Expertise in networking
• Hands-on experience with CLI (Command Line Interface)
• Comfortable receiving and executing changes from senior engineers
• Must handle higher-level tasks beyond basic troubleshooting
• Strong understanding of network operations, including upgrades (software, Windows/Linux)
• Experience in customer-facing support roles
• Escalation management experience

Your Daily Tasks

• Create, test, continuously monitor, and improve upon new and existing network configurations
• Assist network planning team with testing of new products and features
• Continuously measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of mission critical systems
• Ensure data and infrastructure protection by applying appropriate security controls
• Track, research and recommend software upgrades for existing programs and systems
• Build, test, and activate network services more rapidly and reliably
• Document network management processes and automate repetitive tasks
• Focus on solving problems that enable workforce multiplication
• Maintain accurate project estimates, timelines, project plans, and status reports
• Maintain documentation of systems, ensuring accountability and visibility of issues and projects
• Troubleshoot network, system, security, and application issues
• Design, improve and execute disaster recovery operations when required
• Replace faulty network hardware components when required
• Work on-call rotation for resolving after-hours service issues
• Protect data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures
• Advocate for security and performance standards in the organization
• Perform other duties and/or contribute to various projects working with minimal supervision, including helping other departments and team members, as directed by supervisor or department head to meet company and departmental goals
