Safety Officer- Building Maintenance

The Job Summary:

The Safety Officer (SO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines on construction sites. The SO monitors operations to eliminate hazardous activities, develops safety policies, and promotes a culture of safety awareness among workers. The goal is to ensure a safe working environment and prevent injuries, accidents, and work-related illnesses.

• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
• Enforce compliance with OHS policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and orientations to workers and subcontractors.
• Maintain up-to-date records of safety audits, incidents, and training sessions.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
• Collaborate with site supervisors, contractors, and other stakeholders to promote safe work practices.
• Develop and implement emergency response procedures.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure the site complies with all applicable codes and standards.
• Stay updated with the latest OHS legislation, best practices, and industry trends.

• Certification as Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and practices.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-pressure situations.
• Proficient in incident reporting tools and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• First Aid certification is an asset.

• Outdoor construction site environment; exposure to weather and loud noise.
• Use of PPE required at all times.

• Conduct Daily Toolbox meetings and secure the attendance.
• Collaborate with IBMS, Client and Project team.
• Secure adequate Work Permits before all activities.
• Enforce compliance with OHS policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and orientations to workers and subcontractors.
• Maintain up-to-date records of safety audits, incidents, and training sessions.

• Certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or equivalent (COSH, BOSH, LCM, HIRAC.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction safety.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and practices.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-pressure situations.
• Proficient in incident reporting tools and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• First Aid certification is an asset.
• Bachelor's degree is a plus.
• Has an experience on a factory setup.
