The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing occupational safety, health, and environmental programs within the automotive industry setting, which includes pre-delivery inspection areas, stockyards, showrooms, workshops, and parts/warehousing facilities. The role ensures compliance with both the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) standards and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) –Environmental Bureau (EMB) regulations. The Safety Officer is also designated as the dealership's Pollution Control Officer, overseeing environmental compliance, including waste management, pollution control, and environmental reporting.

About the opportunity

Occupational Safety & Health Functions

  • Conducts regular inspections of pre-delivery inspection and/or service areas, workshops, showrooms, stockyard, and office spaces to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Implements safety policies, guidelines, and procedures per DOLE Department Order No
  • Investigates work-related incidents and accidents and ensures proper documentation and corrective measures.
  • Facilitates safety training, orientation, and toolbox meetings for all dealership staff.
  • Coordinates emergency preparedness activities, including fire and earthquake drills.
  • Ensures the availability and maintenance of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Pollution Control Functions

  • Monitors dealership compliance with all applicable environmental laws, rules, and regulations (e.g., RA 8749 Clean Air Act, RA 9275 Clean Water Act, RA 9003 Ecological Solid Waste Management Act).
  • Prepares and submits required environmental reports to DENR-EMB, such as SMR (Self-Monitoring Report), CMR (Compliance Monitoring Report), and hazardous waste manifests.
  • Oversees the proper storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous wastes such as used oils, batteries (including EV batteries), rags, and chemicals.
  • Coordinates with DENR-accredited TSD (Treatment, Storage, and Disposal) facilities for proper waste disposal.
  • Conducts internal environmental audits and risk assessments.
  • Implements pollution prevention initiatives and environmental awareness campaigns for employees.

Administrative & Coordination

  • Maintains up-to-date records of safety and environmental inspections, permits, training, and compliance certificates.
  • Liaises with external agencies such as DOLE, DENR-EMB, LLDA, BFP, and LGUs for inspections, permits, and other compliance matters.
  • Submits periodic reports to management on safety and environmental performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or any related course
  • Must have a BOSH SO2 training certificate and have attended a DENR-accredited Pollution Control Officer Training
  • Preferably with at least 2 years of work experience as a Safety Officer (with a background as a Pollution Control Officer)
  • Strong knowledge of DOLE, LLDA, and DENR compliance requirements
  • Experience in the automotive logistics, dealership, manufacturing, or service center industry is an advantage
  • Willing to work in Calamba, Laguna
