Operations Division Manager Job Description (Supermarket Sector)

Position Summary

The Operations Division Manager for the Supermarket Sector is a key executive leadership role responsible for the efficient, profitable, and customer-focused operation of all retail supermarket stores within a designated division (e.g., a specific geographic region or a group of branches). This role involves setting operational standards, optimizing store performance, managing budgets, and ensuring the delivery of a superior shopping experience while maintaining regulatory compliance and high-quality standards for fresh products.

Key Responsibilities

A. Retail Operations & Performance

  • Strategic Oversight: Develop and execute operational strategies that align with company-wide goals, focusing on revenue growth, expense control, and market share expansion.
  • Store Management Supervision: Directly manage and mentor a team of District/Area Managers and Senior Store Managers, ensuring consistency in execution across all branches.
  • Standards Enforcement: Establish and enforce best practices for merchandising, inventory management, store cleanliness, and customer service excellence.
  • Loss Prevention: Implement and monitor effective shrink reduction strategies, including procedures for theft prevention, minimizing spoilage (especially in perishable goods), and administrative losses.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all stores adhere strictly to food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP), occupational health and safety standards, and local labor laws.

B. Financial Management & Budgeting

  • Budget Control: Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual operational budget for the division, focusing on optimizing labor costs, utility expenses, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Performance Analysis: Review detailed weekly and monthly financial reports, including Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, to identify areas of underperformance and implement corrective action plans.
  • Capital Planning: Recommend and justify capital expenditures for store remodels, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.

C. Fresh Goods Management

  • Quality Control: Oversee the operational handling of high-shrink departments (Produce, Meat, Deli, Bakery) to ensure the highest standards of product freshness, quality, and presentation are maintained.
  • Inventory Rotation: Enforce strict FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management principles to minimize waste and maximize product shelf-life.

D. Leadership & Personnel Development

  • Talent Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, development, and retention of high-potential Store Managers and operational staff.
  • Culture Building: Promote a positive, engaging, and performance-driven work environment focused on achieving customer satisfaction targets.
  • Communication: Serve as the critical link between corporate executive management and field operations teams.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field. An MBA is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the retail grocery industry, with at least 5 years in a multi-unit operations leadership role (e.g., District Manager, Regional Manager).
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale P&L responsibilities

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep Retail/Supermarket Acumen: Intimate knowledge of supermarket operations, including perishable product management, seasonal demands, and merchandising cycles.
  • Exceptional Financial Literacy: Proven ability to read, analyze, and strategically influence P&L statements and manage large operational budgets.
  • Process Optimization: Experience with process improvement methodologies relevant to retail (e.g., efficient checkout flow, backroom organisation).
  • Customer Focus: A passion for delivering excellent customer service and resolving complex customer issues at the executive level.
  • Strong Communication: Superior ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, vendors, and store-level employees.

  • Reports To: Vice President of Retail Operations.
  • Supervises: Store Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Php50, Php60,000.00 per month
