About the role

Malaya Business Insight is seeking a talented and experienced Business Reporter to join our team. As a Business Reporter, you will play a crucial role in covering the latest news, trends, and developments in the business landscape. This is a full-time position based in Manila (being on-assignment on the beat), but our headquarters will soon be moving to Makati. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our editorial team and contribute to our goal of delivering high-quality, insightful business journalism.

What you'll be doing

  1. Researching, investigating, and writing compelling stories on a wide range of business-related topics, including finance, economics, industry trends, and corporate news
  2. Conducting interviews with business leaders, industry experts, and key stakeholders to gather information and insights
  3. Attending press conferences, events, and other business-related functions to stay up-to-date on the latest developments
  4. Collaborating with the editorial team to pitch story ideas, contribute to the overall content strategy, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality content
  5. Maintaining a strong network of industry contacts and sources to uncover exclusive stories and breaking news
  6. Adhering to the highest standards of journalistic ethics and integrity
  7. You will be covering the BSP, or the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and its satellite agencies i.e. BOI (Board of Investments) and PEZA - the economic zone authority

What we're looking for

  1. A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, economics, or finance.
  2. At least 3-5 years of experience as a business reporter or writer, preferably in the Philippines or a similar market
  3. Excellent research, writing, and storytelling skills with a proven track record of producing engaging and impactful business content
  4. Strong understanding of the Philippine business landscape, including key industries, companies, and economic trends
  5. Familiarity with data analysis and the ability to interpret financial statements and economic data
  6. A keen eye for detail, the ability to work under tight deadlines, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  7. Proficiency in English and Filipino
