Nursery Management Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or any Environmental related courses
• Knowledgeable about horticultural practices, particularly in plant propagation, compost production, and landscape maintenance
• Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting, inventory management, data analysis, and communication purposes
• Has at least six (6) months' work experience in nursery operations, with exposure to fieldwork, plant health management, and routine maintenance tasks
• Preferably with experience in nursery management and supporting large-scale landscaping projects
• Able to work collaboratively with a diverse team of horticulturists, nursery personnel, and internal and external clients
• Physically fit to perform hands-on tasks such as plant care, equipment handling, and site inspections

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Support and Planning:

• Assists the Nursery Management Officer in planning and optimizing plant nursery resources and operations to enhance productivity and quality
• Provides technical guidance to nursery personnel for plant propagation, maintenance activities, and compost production, ensuring target outputs are met as per agreement with the Nursery Management Officer
• Conducts benchmarking studies to compare nursery operations with industry standards and identify best practices for improving productivity and efficiency

Monitoring and Record-Keeping:

• Monitors and maintains records of plants, compost, and materials, ensuring accurate and up-to-date inventory for current and future projects
• Maintains accurate records of plant nursery operations, including production, maintenance, composting, and material utilization

Operational Meetings & Coordination:

• Facilitates toolbox meetings and other technical collaboration sessions with nursery personnel to align on operational goals and tasks
• Collaborates with the Nursery Management Officer in resolving operational challenges and providing recommendations for improvements

Personnel Management & Support:

• Assists in the recruitment process by trade testing, screening, and hiring of nursery personnel, as required by operational demands
• Monitors nursery personnel for attendance, performance, and adherence to operational standards, including safety practices and record-keeping tasks.
• Provides technical guidance and on-the-job training to new and existing nursery personnel to ensure they are skilled in the use of equipment and the performance of essential nursery operation tasks

Procurement & Resource Management:

• Assists in the procurement process by canvassing, costing, and preparing purchase requests for necessary tools, materials, and equipment for nursery operations
• Coordinates with suppliers and service providers to gather quotations, negotiate terms, and confirm order details to secure the best value for the organization
• Ensures proper documentation and filing of procurement records, including purchase orders, delivery receipts, and invoices, to maintain an organized and auditable procurement system
• Monitors the status of purchase requests and follow up with the purchasing department or suppliers to address any delays or issues in the delivery process

Customer Collaboration & Logistics:

• Collaborates with plant nursery customers to assess and understand their plant needs, ensuring appropriate plant selections, quantities, and timelines are met for projects
• Coordinates the logistics for plant delivery, including scheduling, transportation, and managing the transfer of materials requests to ensure that all customer requirements are met efficiently
• Handles ad hoc tasks associated with plant nursery operations and customer service, including responding to urgent requests, supporting special projects, and managing unexpected issues to ensure smooth operations and maintain customer satisfaction

Other Responsibilities:

• Provides support for additional projects and tasks as needed, including collaborating with other departments within the organization to ensure smooth operations
• Completes additional tasks related to the overall nursery operations and improvement efforts as assigned by senior management
