Essential Skills

  • Attention to detail for spotting issues like misregistration, ink density variations, or print sharpness flaws during inspections.
  • Proficiency with tools such as densitometers, spectrophotometers, calipers, and magnifiers to measure tolerances and analyze print attributes.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify defect causes in offset processes and recommend fixes, like press adjustments.
  • Strong communication skills to report findings, collaborate with press operators, and document rejections clearly.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in printing technology, graphic arts, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience in printing or manufacturing quality control, with certifications like ASQ Certified Quality Inspector a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations for handling inks, presses, and chemicals in a production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect print quality, including color matching, registration (alignment of colors), ink density, and print sharpness against proofs, PDFs, or samples.
  • Perform in-process checks during offset printing stages, such as plate setup, press runs, and finishing, while conducting ink tests for proper drying or curing.
  • Identify and isolate defective prints, record rejections on job tickets, and notify press operators or supervisors for immediate corrections.
  • Use precision tools like calipers, color spectrophotometers, densitometers, and magnifiers to measure dimensions, verify tolerances, and analyze print attributes.
  • Document inspections thoroughly, maintain quality logs, and recommend process improvements to reduce waste and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve issues like misregistration or color shifts in real-time.
