Role Summary

The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and maintaining supplier relationships for technical goods and services that are critical for the operations of the plant. These include equipment, spare parts, machinery, technical services, maintenance supplies, and any specialized materials. The role ensures that purchases meet required technical specifications, quality standards, cost targets, and delivery schedules. This position works closely with engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance departments to ensure operational reliability, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify & evaluate suppliers of technical/equipment/parts, both local and international, ensuring they can meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Review technical specifications for equipment, machinery, spare and wear parts, maintenance tools, etc., to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Issue purchase orders, manage RFQs (Requests for Quotation), compare offers, negotiate terms (price, delivery, warranties).
  • Collaborate with engineering / maintenance teams to understand technical requirements, foresee parts criticality.
  • Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, service) and take remedial actions if needed.
  • Maintain spare parts / technical supplies inventory: ensure stock levels are adequate, avoid run-outs of critical items, assist with forecasting usage.
  • Ensure that procured technical items comply with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards as applicable.
  • Cost management: source cost-effective solutions, identify opportunities for savings without compromising quality or reliability.
  • Maintain good documentation: contracts, technical data sheets, purchase orders, supplier audits, etc.
  • Support coordination for installation, commissioning or servicing of procured equipment, as needed, with suppliers/contractors.
  • Ensure alignment with overall supply chain / procurement policies, company codes of conduct, budgetary constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or any Business-related courses
  • With at least 1 year solid experience in procurement/purchasing or buyer role for technical/industrial/manufacturing environment. Experience in food/agro-processing is a plus.
  • Good understanding of mechanical/electrical components, machinery, technical drawing/specifications, etc.
  • Negotiation skills; ability to analyze quotations (TCO – total cost of ownership) including life-cycle cost, maintenance, reliability.
  • Strong supplier management skills.
  • Ability to forecast needs, manage inventory of spare parts / technical supplies.
  • Attention to detail, especially for specifications, quality, safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with procurement / ERP / supply chain systems
  • SAP knowledge/experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, quality) and external suppliers.
  • Ability to travel for supplier visits or sourcing, as needed.
  • With valid driver's license
