The Laundry Manager will play a critical role in the successful pre-opening and operational launch of the hotel's laundry function. This role is responsible for designing, setting up, and managing the full laundry operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality service delivery. Once operational, the Laundry Manager will oversee daily laundry activities, supervise staff, manage equipment and supplies, and maintain service standards aligned with the brand's commitment to cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
Pre-Opening Phase:
- Develop and implement the laundry operations framework, including SOPs, workflow, staffing, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with the pre-opening team on the procurement, installation, and testing of laundry equipment and supplies.
- Create preventive maintenance schedules in collaboration with Engineering.
- Define par levels for linen, uniforms, and guest laundry.
- Recruit, train, and onboard laundry staff, ensuring readiness before opening.
- Establish vendor relationships for chemicals, detergents, and consumables.
Operational Phase:
Daily Operations Management
- Oversee the full laundry cycle: collection, sorting, washing, drying, pressing, folding, and distribution.
- Ensure efficient handling of hotel linens, staff uniforms, and guest laundry within agreed turnaround times.
- Assign staff schedules, workloads, and tasks to optimize manpower use.
- Monitor productivity and output to meet operational targets.
Quality & Hygiene Control
- Inspect finished items for stains, tears, or damage before release.
- Ensure consistent adherence to brand quality standards for cleanliness, appearance, and fabric care.
- Maintain hygiene standards in laundry facilities, including proper handling of soiled items and waste.
- Conduct regular staff training on hygiene, safety, and chemical handling.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Maintain accurate records of linen circulation, usage, and life cycle.
- Control par stock levels for linen and uniforms; report shortages or damages to Housekeeping.
- Track chemical and detergent usage to avoid wastage.
- Monitor water, electricity, and steam consumption, identifying opportunities for savings.
- Prepare monthly operational and cost reports for management.
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
- Supervise daily inspection and cleaning of laundry equipment.
- Schedule preventive maintenance with Engineering to avoid breakdowns.
- Ensure proper calibration and safe operation of washing, drying, and pressing machines.
- Report and follow up on equipment repairs promptly.
Team Management & Training
- Lead, train, and motivate laundry staff to deliver efficient service.
- Conduct ongoing skills training on stain removal, fabric care, machine use, and guest service.
- Implement performance monitoring and appraisals to develop staff.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and PPE usage.
Guest Service & Coordination
- Handle guest laundry and pressing requests promptly and professionally.
- Work closely with Housekeeping for smooth linen circulation (bed sheets, towels, F&B linens, etc.).
- Coordinate with Front Office on billing and special requests for guest laundry.
- Proactively address guest complaints and resolve issues with service recovery when needed.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all laundry operations comply with local health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Implement emergency procedures in case of equipment malfunction, fire, or chemical spillage.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and train staff accordingly.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of laundry management experience, preferably in hotels or hospitality.
- Pre-opening experience is a strong advantage.
- Technical knowledge of laundry equipment, processes, and chemicals.
- Background in budget/midscale hotels preferred but not required.
Key Competencies:
- Strong operational planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to train, lead, and motivate a small team.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.
- Budget-conscious, with experience in cost control and vendor negotiations.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially under time constraints.
- Knowledge of workplace safety, hygiene, and preventive maintenance practices.
