Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Platform Engineering Manager to lead and develop a team of engineers, enabling and optimizing Ubuntu for various hardware platforms. This role will involve overseeing commercial engagements, ensuring timely delivery on agreed project milestones, and participating as a technical lead in complex customer engagements.

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent leadership skills, and experience working with Linux, Debian/Ubuntu, and operational systems software.

To succeed in this role, you must possess exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment, and demonstrate a personal drive to meet commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and develop a team of engineers to enable and optimize Ubuntu for latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems
  2. Oversight of commercial engagements and support for timely delivery on agreed project milestones
  3. Participation as a technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures
Requirements
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
  • Fluency in C, C++, and Python
  • Experience with Linux and operational systems software (e.g., kernel or user space)
  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other distro packaging
  • Experience leading software engineering teams
  • Professional written and spoken English
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Experience working with open source communities and licenses
  • Computer architecture knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V, or s390x
  • Understanding of build systems and toolchains, including for cross-compilation
