Financial Operations Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our team and oversee the management of financial operations for our client. This key role requires expertise in managing financial operations for a complex group structure, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic alignment in the media and entertainment sectors.

The Financial Operations Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Managing accounts receivable, including quote preparation, invoicing, and payment reminders for entity-specific revenue streams.
  • Overseeing accounts payable, including purchase orders and payout scheduling for each entity.
  • Performing reconciliation of payment and payout transactions for entities.
  • Recording entity-specific transactions and adjusting P/L and B/S movements.
  • Implementing authorisation controls for entity expenses and managing expense processes via Budgetly.
  • Approving vendor and contractor payments for each entity.
  • Establishing financial controls for entity-specific purchase orders and approvals.
  • Preparing quarterly BAS and annual returns for each entity, ensuring compliance with local tax obligations.
  • Providing financial insights for entity decision-making through management reporting.
  • Implementing entity-specific revenue recognition rules and ensuring compliance with AASB 15.
  • Developing and approving budgets for each entity and tracking entity-specific budget variances.
  • Preparing financial forecasts for each entity and conducting scenario analysis for entity cash flow needs.
  • Managing schedules for entity-specific tangible and intangible assets, ensuring compliance with AASB 138.
  • Overseeing entity-specific payroll processing, superannuation, and PAYG compliance.
  • Administering entity-specific commission and bonus schedules.
  • Tracking revenue and costs for entity-specific projects, managing deferred revenue, and project profitability for each entity.
  • Valuing and amortizing entity-specific IP assets and tracking royalty income/expenses for each entity.
  • Managing payments to entity-specific vendors, freelancers, and talent, ensuring PAYG and superannuation compliance for entity contractors.
  • Eliminating intercompany transactions and overseeing intercompany loans, service agreements, and cost allocations.
  • Preparing group-level financial reports and consolidating financials across all entities.
  • Managing cash pooling and liquidity across the group, overseeing FX management for cross-border transactions, and optimising group working capital.
  • Establishing arm's length pricing for intercompany transactions and maintaining documentation for tax compliance.
  • Developing group tax strategies and managing dividend repatriation and group tax filings.
  • Drafting and maintaining agreements for shared services, allocating costs, and ensuring group tax compliance.
  • Preparing group-level cash flow forecasts and analysing cash needs across entities for events and campaigns.
  • Identifying and mitigating group financial risks and implementing group-wide financial policies.
  • Evaluating group debt vs. equity financing and managing dividend policies for client shareholders.
  • Monitoring and reporting on group debt facilities and managing interest and principal payments.
  • Managing group consolidation and tax advisory projects, supporting ad-hoc group financial initiatives, and coordinating external audits for all entities.
  • Conducting financial due diligence for group acquisitions and integrating new entities into group financial systems.
  • Preparing group financial reports for shareholders, board, and external stakeholders, managing investor relations for group funding needs, and ensuring group transparency and confidence.
  • Building group-level 3-way forecasts, M&A models, and financial charts to support group strategic initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA certification is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years in financial management.
  • At least 3 years of experience working within a multi-entity group structure.
  • Experience in media, entertainment, or event-based industries is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Xero or similar ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with expense management tools.
  • Strong skills in Excel or Google Sheets, particularly for group-level modelling and forecasting.

Soft Skills:

  • Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder and cross-entity collaboration.
  • Ability to manage complex priorities across multiple entities.

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of AASB standards, OECD transfer pricing guidelines, and ATO regulations.
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and intellectual property (IP) valuation in the media and entertainment sectors.
