Senior SMSF Accountant Job Description

The SMSF Accountant is responsible for supporting the preparation of reports and workpapers for multiple SMSF clients. This role involves managing client portfolio tasks and deadlines, as well as communicating with the respective client engagement team.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare financial statements, tax returns, and audit files for SMSF clients.
  • Workpaper Preparation: Prepare workpapers in line with client standards and processes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with SMSF regulations and organizational guidelines.
  • BAS Lodgement: Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other regulatory returns.
  • Ad Hoc Reports: Prepare ad hoc reports for special events in SMSFs, including TBAR reporting.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Accounting Qualification: BS Accountancy graduate or equivalent.
  • Professional Certification: CPA or non-CPA certification.
  • Experience: At least 1.5 to 2 years' experience in SMSF Accounting or a related field.
  • SMSF Knowledge: Understands SMSF regulations, accounting, and financial reporting principles and practices.
  • Clients Handled: Has handled approximately 100 SMSF accounts.
  • Language Skills: Strong written and verbal English skills.
  • System Knowledge: Knowledge of SMSF accounting systems, such as SuperMate or Class Super or BGL360.
  • Presentation Skills: Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Team Player: Able to conduct training for new staff members if needed.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Analytical mind.
  • Initiative: Able to work on their own initiative and part of a team.
  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills.
