Senior Financial Leader Job Description

The role of a Senior Financial Leader involves overseeing the financial operations of a media and entertainment sector company, including its subsidiaries. This position is responsible for managing entity-level and group-wide financial processes, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic alignment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee quote preparation, invoicing, and payment reminders for entity-specific revenue streams.
  • Purchase Order Management: Manage purchase orders (POs) and payout scheduling for each entity, ensuring timely vendor payments aligned with entity operations.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Perform payment and payout reconciliations for entity transactions, maintaining accuracy of entity-level financial records.
  • Journal Entries: Record entity-specific transactions and adjust profit/loss and balance sheet movements, ensuring accurate financial statement presentation for each entity.
  • Expense Authorisation: Implement authorisation controls for entity expenses, managing expense processes via Budgetly (physical/virtual cards).
  • Vendor Payments: Oversee authorisation controls for entity payments, approving vendor and contractor payments for each entity.
  • Procurement Controls: Establish financial controls for entity-specific purchase orders and approvals, overseeing procurement for all entities.
  • Statutory Reporting: Prepare quarterly Business Activity Statements (BAS) and annual returns for each entity, ensuring entity compliance with local tax obligations.
  • Management Reporting: Prepare entity-level profit/loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements, providing financial insights for entity decision-making.
  • Revenue Recognition: Implement entity-specific revenue recognition rules, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Budget Setting & Variance Analysis: Develop and approve budgets for each entity, tracking and analysing entity-specific budget variances.
  • Financial Forecasting: Prepare financial forecasts for each entity, conducting scenario analysis for entity cash flow needs.
  • Asset Depreciation & Amortisation: Manage schedules for entity-specific tangible and intangible assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Payroll Management: Oversee entity-specific payroll processing, superannuation, and PAYG compliance, managing payroll cadence for each entity.
  • Commission Administration: Administer entity-specific commission and bonus schedules, obtaining sign-off for entity-level bonus structures.
  • Project Accounting: Track revenue and costs for entity-specific projects, managing deferred revenue and project profitability for each entity.
  • Intellectual Property Valuation: Value and amortise entity-specific IP assets, tracking royalty income/expenses for each entity (if required).
  • Vendor & Talent Payment Management: Manage payments to entity-specific vendors, freelancers, and talent, ensuring PAYG and superannuation compliance for entity contractors.
  • Intercompany Transaction Management: Manage eliminations for group consolidation, overseeing intercompany loans, service agreements, and cost allocations.
  • Consolidated Financial Reporting: Prepare group-level financial reports, consolidating financials across all entities.
  • Group Treasury Management: Manage cash pooling and liquidity across the group, overseeing foreign exchange management for cross-border transactions.
  • Transfer Pricing: Establish arm's length pricing for inter-company transactions, maintaining documentation for tax compliance.
  • Group Tax Strategy & Compliance: Develop group tax strategies, managing dividend repatriation and group tax filings.
  • Intercompany Service Agreements: Draft and maintain agreements for shared services, allocating costs and ensuring group tax compliance.
  • Consolidated Cash Flow Forecasting: Prepare group-level cash flow forecasts, analysing cash needs across entities for events and campaigns.
  • Group Risk Management: Identify and mitigate group financial risks, implementing group-wide financial policies.
  • Capital Structure Evaluation: Evaluate group debt vs. equity financing, managing dividend policies for shareholder interests.
  • Debt Facility Management: Monitor and report on group debt facilities, managing interest and principal payments.
  • Special Projects: Manage group consolidation and tax advisory projects, supporting ad-hoc group financial initiatives.
  • Audit Coordination: Coordinate external audits for all entities, preparing group audit schedules and reconciling inter-company balances.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions Due Diligence: Conduct financial due diligence for group acquisitions, integrating new entities into group financial systems.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: Prepare group financial reports for shareholders, board, and external stakeholders, managing investor relations for group funding needs.
  • Financial Modelling: Build group-level three-way forecasts, M&A models, and financial charts, supporting group strategic initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA certification required.
  • Minimum of 7 years in financial management.
  • At least 3 years of experience working within a multi-entity group structure.
  • Experience in media, entertainment, or event-based industries is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in inter-company transactions, group consolidation, and Australian tax compliance.
