Senior Bookkeeper Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior Bookkeeper to oversee payroll, reconciliations, and project accounting. This role offers the chance to work closely with project managers and leadership while ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have strong construction industry expertise and excellent communication skills. They will be responsible for managing full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining and updating financial records in MYOB or Xero, overseeing payroll processing, allocating and coding transactions, preparing management reports, and supporting project accounting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and update financial records in MYOB or Xero.
  • Oversee payroll processing, including superannuation, PAYG, and year-end reconciliations.
  • Allocate and code transactions, ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and financial insights.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports.
  • Support project accounting by monitoring budgets, cost codes, and providing financial advice.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor accounts, including invoice verification, payment preparation, and reconciliations.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and at least 5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction industry.

You will also need to have strong knowledge of MYOB or Xero, advanced Excel skills, and proven experience in payroll, superannuation, BAS, GST, and compliance reporting.
