Job Role

A patient services representative is responsible for handling a wide range of activities related to patient inquiries and concerns. The primary tasks involve understanding the needs of patients through interviews and active listening. The role then ensures that these needs are met by coordinating information from various sources, including consumers, family members, medical personnel, and administrative staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to incoming calls in accordance with established procedures and departmental standards.
  • Provide assistance to patients in resolving their queries and concerns.
  • Collect outstanding balances from patients.
  • Support third-party entities, such as insurance companies, in their inquiries regarding patient accounts.
  • Make outbound collection calls according to procedure and departmental standards.
  • Assist patients with billing-related queries and concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines by safeguarding protected health information within the scope of the position's duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and support for departmental and company goals and policies.
  • Maintain a good attendance record and arrive on time for work and breaks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Preferrably a college graduate or at least 2 years of college education.
  • Degrees and courses related to the medical field are beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Capable of performing simple mathematical calculations.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in email usage.
  • Highly motivated self-starter.
  • Organized, able to set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Dependable and reliable.
  • Team player supportive of departmental and company goals and policies.
  • Flexible schedule required.
  • At least 1 year of call center experience related to medical accounts and programs is advantageous.
