Accounting Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Accounting Assistant to join our team at Skyedesk. As an Accounting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Accounting and Tax department with various tasks, including data entry, transaction processing, and financial statement preparation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with data entry, processing, and classifying transactions
  • Support the Accounting and Tax department with financial statement preparation
  • Perform clerical tasks, such as data processing and summarizing data
  • Draft email communication for clients
  • Process transactions and journals for year-end taxation work
  • Identify eligible deductions from client summaries and raise queries as required
  • Pre-screen initial information received by clients and draft relevant queries
  • Assist with preparing financial reports and supporting documentation for manager's review
  • Provide general practice administration support as required
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of solid Australian work experience as an Accounting Assistant or Accounting Clerk in Public Accounting practice
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures (double entries accounting system)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with general Australian Taxation System
  • Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g. Xero / MYOB / QuickBooks)
  • Excellent organization skills and sense of urgency with dealing client matters
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
  • BSc/Ba in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
