Job Title: Mortgage Underwriting Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mortgage Underwriting Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that mortgage loans meet accuracy, completeness, and credit standards before delivery to capital markets loan buyers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loan Preparation & Accuracy: Review and validate all mortgage loan components, including borrower documentation, financial data, and property appraisals.
  • Ensure all data points and documents in the loan package are accurate, complete, and aligned with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) outputs.
  • Conduct thorough calculations and validations to ensure the integrity and reliability of the loan package.
Credit & Risk Mitigation
  • Credit & Risk Mitigation: Identify and resolve credit issues to minimize risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation for each underwriting decision, creating a transparent audit trail.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement
  • Quality Assurance & Process Improvement: Conduct quality checks on completed loan packages to uphold a high standard of accuracy.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of meaningful experience with mortgage loan underwriting (conventional, FHA/VA, non-QM).
  • Experience and familiarity with TRID guidelines, and agency and investor guidelines (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/VA).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Detail-oriented mindset; accuracy matters in financial services.
