Editorial Role for Romance Novels

We are seeking a skilled Editor with expertise in the romance genre to guide manuscripts from draft to polished novel. As our ideal candidate, you will elevate characters, refine emotional arcs, and sharpen pacing so readers never want to put the book down.

This is a hands-on editorial role for someone fluent in the romance market, its tropes, and its expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developmental & Line Editing: Strengthen pacing, characterization, and trope delivery while maintaining voice.
  • Scene Drafting: Write seamless new material when needed, matching the author's style.
  • Copyediting: Ensure every line is clean, consistent, and immersive.
  • Genre Coaching: Keep heat levels, payoffs, and beats aligned with contemporary romance expectations.
  • Collaboration: Deliver feedback via tracked changes, editorial letters, and occasional live calls.
  • Multi-Project Management: Balance multiple manuscripts while maintaining high editorial standards.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of professional editing experience in contemporary romance.
  • 3+ published romance novels edited (please provide ISBNs or retailer links).
  • Strong ghostwriting or scene drafting experience.
  • Advanced command of grammar, dialogue pacing, and formatting.
  • Ability to spot sagging middles, sharpen arcs, and elevate tropes.
  • A deep love for romance — you know the difference between a HEA and a HFN, and why it matters.
