Embedded Linux Senior Software Engineer Role Overview

As a seasoned Embedded Linux Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing optimal Ubuntu integration for cutting-edge IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks.

In this dynamic position, you will collaborate with partners to deliver a seamless, optimized, first-class Ubuntu experience on their platforms.

Embracing a holistic approach to the Ubuntu experience on partner platforms, you will provide input on technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics.

As a technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge, you will help our customers integrate their applications, SDKs, build device OS images, optimize applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.

You will work with the most advanced operating systems and application technologies available in the enterprise world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement optimal Ubuntu integration for IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks.
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver a seamless, optimized, first-class Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Develop and maintain technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge.
  • Work with customers on exciting IoT and server platforms and technologies built to support various verticals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong background in Linux with experience in packaging and working with open-source communities and licenses.
  • Experience working with C and C++ programming languages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with graphics stacks.
  • Good understanding of networking - TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST.
  • Basic understanding of security best practices in IoT or server environments.
  • Good communication skills, ideally public speaking experience.
  • IoT/embedded experience – from board and SoC, BMCs, bootloaders, and firmware to OS, through apps and services.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar is required.
