Accounting Specialist

This is a remote accounting specialist role that involves managing day-to-day financial transactions in Xero, including reconciling accounts, processing invoices, managing expenses, and handling general ledger entries. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in bookkeeping using Xero, proficiency with Dext or similar receipt-capturing tools, and strong understanding of financial workflows.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing day-to-day financial transactions in Xero: reconciling accounts, processing invoices, managing expenses, and handling general ledger entries.
  • Using Dext to capture, code, and file supplier receipts and invoices; ensuring digital documents are organized and audit-ready.
  • Processing and tracking accounts payable and receivable; preparing supplier payments and chasing incoming payments as needed.
  • Collaborating with the director to support accurate project costing: allocating materials, labour, and overhead to relevant projects.
  • Reconciling bank and credit card statements regularly.
  • Preparing monthly management reports: P&L, cash-flow statements, project cost summaries.
  • Assisting with BAS preparation and liaising with external accountants for tax matters.
  • Providing ad-hoc admin support: preparing reports, compiling project documents, and assisting with marketing efforts.

Requirements
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in bookkeeping using Xero.
  • Proficiency with Dext (or similar receipt-capturing tools).
  • Strong understanding of financial workflows: invoicing, reconciliation, tracking expenses, and job costing.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail in both financial and admin tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a small, collaborative team where adaptability is key.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
