We seek a highly skilled professional to join our team as the Director, Disaster Risk Management. As a key member of the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department, you will play a critical role in shaping ADB's disaster risk management policy and operational framework. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Leveraging Expertise: You will draw on your extensive experience in DRM policy, strategy, and operations to drive positive change in ADB's operations. This will involve providing strategic inputs and advice to ADB Management and senior staff on the latest DRM priorities, emerging risks, policy directions, funding trends, and technical innovations. Additionally, you will oversee International and Local staff who administer and implement DRM, recovery, and resilience projects and support project processing for ADB's developing member countries.
Capacity Building: You will develop and implement effective capacity-building initiatives to enhance staff skills and knowledge in DRM. This will involve organizing internal and external training and briefing sessions on relevant topics and sharing information on conferences and training opportunities. You will also ensure the ongoing learning and development of reporting staff and provide career development advice to all staff.
Promotion of Policy: You will promote and monitor the application and bank-wide implementation of ADB's Disaster and Emergency Assistance Policy and related action plans. This will involve working closely with government officials, development partners, and stakeholders to enhance ADB's capacity to address risks from natural hazards including both geo-physical and those hazards that are aggravated by climate change in Asia and the Pacific.
Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Masters' Degree in Disaster Risk Management, economics, structural engineering, social sciences, or other related fields.
- At least 15 years of relevant professional experience in DRM policy, strategy, and operations work.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A strong understanding of multilateral development banks and their strategic objectives in promoting disaster and climate resilience.
