Job Overview

The Finance Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing the finance function, encompassing budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, procurement, and strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the finance team, collaborating with other departments to ensure efficient allocation of financial resources.
  • Ensures effectiveness and efficiency of policies and internal control processes.
  • Manages the organization's financial position and monitors performance against approved plans.
  • Implements programs and policies to safeguard and steward financial and physical resources.
  • Ensures compliance with donor and government requirements.
  • Oversees sourcing, purchasing, and negotiation of goods and services.
  • Reviews and decides on significant organizational issues as part of the senior management team.
Financial Forecasting, Analysis, and Risk Management
  • Oversees investment of funds to maximize return at an acceptable risk level.
  • Assesses and evaluates financial performance and provides analysis to the senior management team.
  • Provides valuable financial insights to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Ensures implementation of internal and external audit recommendations.
  • Establishes and implements financial standards, policies, and processes.
  • Oversees tax functions and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates audits with regulatory agencies.
  • Enhances and implements financial systems, policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Interprets rules to ensure compliance.
Financial Management and Reporting
  • Develops operating budgets and ensures programmatic success through cost analysis and compliance.
  • Reviews and ensures application of internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Advises on project feasibility and reviews proposed projects.
  • Oversees fiscal reporting activities, including internal and external reports.
  • Monitors banking activities and maintains organizational accounts.
Procurement
  • Develops and implements procurement strategies to optimize cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Oversees the procurement process, including requisition, sourcing, purchasing, and delivery.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand procurement needs.
  • Stays abreast of market trends and regulatory changes.
  • Leads and mentors the procurement staff.
Strategic Planning and Management
  • Participates in the development, management, and monitoring of annual and long-term strategic business plans.
  • Prepares the annual organizational operating plan in collaboration with the senior management team.
  • Collaborates with relevant departments in monitoring the annual plan and provides recommendations for adjustments.
  • Develops and manages an annual plan for the finance function.
