Job Overview

The boot process is a critical system initialization procedure in any operating system, where stability, reliability, and security are paramount. Its efficiency and quality significantly contribute to the success of our distribution from desktop, server, to cloud environments.

We seek an experienced software engineer who is passionate about Linux systems, hardware architectures, Ubuntu, and the open-source community, to join our Foundations Engineering team to maintain and enhance the Ubuntu bootloader stack.

Applicants should be comfortable working with Secure Boot, Measured Boot, Full Disk Encryption, and other technologies used during modern operating system boot processes.

This role involves highly technical work, requiring a careful and systematic approach to software development. This work is crucial to system security and reliability.

As a Linux System Engineer, you will work on the architecture, design, and development of core components involved in the boot and startup of our distribution, often interacting with upstream communities for projects like Grub, shim, and u-boot.

You will collaborate proactively with our distributed team, work with highly technical teams to define and shape the boot architecture of our distribution, and write high-quality code to create new features and contribute upstream.
