Expert Consultant: Desegregation of Roma Children in Education

UNICEF works in some of the world's most challenging environments to reach disadvantaged children. To save their lives, defend their rights, and enable them to fulfill their potential.

The European Commission has approved a Technical Support Instrument to support Slovakia's Ministry of Education in desegregation of Roma children in education. Our Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia is implementing this project with the European Commission's Reform Taskforce and the Slovakian Ministry of Education.

This initiative aims to strengthen education authorities' capacity to implement desegregation of Roma children in education and develop a sustainable system to monitor elimination and prevention of segregation in schools.

The expected outcome is to provide Roma children with high-quality education, enabling them to acquire better skills, knowledge, and equal opportunities. This will promote inclusion, respect for diversity, and multiculturalism while eliminating prejudices, stereotypes, and discrimination in the education system.

We are launching a call for consultancy for a Roma Education/Inclusive Education Expert to support resource development and review analysis activities envisaged by this project.

The Roma Education/Inclusive Education Expert-Consultant will be supervised by our Regional Education Specialist and will work closely with two other consultants.

The tasks include conducting an EU/international review of good practices, developing a capacity building toolkit, and supporting the draft National Roma Education Desegregation Action Plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct an EU/international review of good practices in addressing education segregation specifically for Roma children and promoting inclusive education.
  • Develop a toolkit for capacity building of regional and national stakeholders and deliver capacity building workshops.
  • Provide necessary technical expertise to project activities based on the findings of the EU/international review and toolkit.
  • Support presentation of project deliverables for events, including preparation of presentations and participation in events.
Requirements
  • You should have an advanced degree in international development, human rights, education, or another relevant social science field.
  • You should have at least ten years of professional work experience in education, inclusive education, or inclusion of the most vulnerable groups in education.
  • You should have knowledge and/or experience in conducting or managing research projects.
  • You should have knowledge and/or experience in development of resources/materials for training and delivery of trainings.
  • You should have good networking and collaboration skills.
  • You should be fluent in written and spoken English with excellent communication and presentation skills.
