Hill Water Publishing seeks an experienced Romance Editor who can elevate stories of love and passion to deliver emotional depth, irresistible tropes, and a satisfying happily-ever-after. As our Love Story Refiner, you'll guide manuscripts from draft to polished novel, strengthening characters, refining emotional arcs, and sharpening pacing so readers never want to put the book down.

Responsibilities
  • Developmental & Line Editing: Strengthen pacing, characterization, and trope delivery while maintaining voice.
  • Scene Drafting: Write seamless new material when needed, matching the author's style.
  • Copyediting: Ensure every line is clean, consistent, and immersive.
  • Genre Coaching: Keep heat levels, payoffs, and beats aligned with contemporary romance expectations.
  • Collaboration: Deliver feedback via tracked changes, editorial letters, and occasional live calls.
  • Multi-Project Management: Balance multiple manuscripts while maintaining high editorial standards.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional editing experience in contemporary romance.
  • 3+ published romance novels edited (please provide ISBNs or retailer links).
  • Strong ghostwriting or scene drafting experience.
  • Advanced command of grammar, dialogue pacing, and formatting.
  • Ability to spot sagging middles, sharpen arcs, and elevate tropes.
  • A deep love for romance — you know the difference between a HEA and a HFN, and why it matters.
