The role of a General Ledger Accountant is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of a company's financial records.

Key Responsibilities

This includes reviewing transactions, reconciling accounts, and crafting journal entries to ensure the financial picture is clear and reliable for informed decision-making.

Additionally, the General Ledger Accountant plays a key role in the month-end and year-end closing processes, guaranteeing that all financial records are accurate and complete.

Main Tasks:

  1. Data Accuracy: Ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions posted to the general ledger by meticulously reviewing and verifying data.
  2. Account Reconciliation: Regularly reconciling accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies between account balances and external sources like bank statements and vendor invoices.
  3. Journal Entries: Creating complex journal entries for various accounting activities like depreciation, accruals, and prepayments.
  4. Financial Reporting: Preparing financial reports and budgets, as well as analyzing financial data to identify trends and potential issues.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and minimum 3 years experience in general ledger accounting. Familiarity with internal audit procedures and knowledge of financial regulations relevant to your industry are also essential.

Technical Skills:

  1. Accounting Principles: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in recording transactions.
  2. General Ledger Expertise: Proven ability to manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and complete posting of financial transactions.
  3. Journal Entry Preparation: Experience in preparing complex journal entries for various accounting activities.
  4. Account Reconciliation: Skilled at reconciling bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  5. Financial Software: Proficiency in accounting software suites like QuickBooks.
