Medical Scribe Job Description

Role Overview:

A medical scribe is a critical member of the healthcare team, responsible for accurately documenting patient interactions in real-time. This role enables healthcare providers to focus on delivering high-quality patient care while ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documenting patient encounters in real-time using Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) such as Epic, AthenaNet/AthenaHealth, Cerner, or NextGen
  • Capturing detailed patient information, including histories, physical exam findings, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions
  • Maintaining up-to-date charts, medication lists, allergies, and problem lists
  • Supporting administrative tasks, such as templating notes and handling visit summaries
  • Reviewing prior records to provide context for current visits
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers for clarification and accuracy of documentation
  • Ensuring all documentation meets clinical and legal standards, adhering to HIPAA guidelines

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • At least 1–2 years of experience as a medical scribe or in a clinical documentation role
  • Familiarity with medical terminologies and clinical workflows
  • Preferrable: healthcare-related degree
  • Proficient with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
  • Experience with EMRs like Epic, Cerner, or AthenaHealth is beneficial
  • HIPAA Certification is advantageous
  • Fast and accurate typing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Organized and highly focused
  • Flexible to work night shifts

    • Headset: Any USB-type headset with noise-cancelling feature
    • Camera: Capable of clear and crisp video output

    • OPTION 2 (POWER SUPPLY - UPS):
      • Must be capable of powering your workstation for at least 3 hours
      • Typically a device with 240Wh or higher will suffice
      • Must accommodate all plugs required to maintain primary devices and work environment
