Job Title: Social Media Journalist

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Social Media Journalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing engaging, news-focused short-form videos and written content across various social media platforms.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating high-quality, engaging content that resonates with our online audience. This includes researching trending topics, conducting fact-checking, and crafting compelling narratives that spark conversations and connect with online communities.

  • Produce social-first news content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Research trending topics and conduct fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Frame compelling angles for news stories, scripting and creating a narrative flow that resonates with audiences.
  • Write engaging captions, headlines, and hooks optimized for different platforms.
  • Stay updated on social media trends and viral content formats to ensure content remains relevant and competitive.
  • Transform editorial articles into concise, engaging video content tailored to each platform's best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A diploma or degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or related field.
  • Prior experience in content creation, social media management, or digital journalism is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, their audiences, and content trends (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook).
  • Proficiency in video editing and design software (Capcut, Canva, or equivalent)
  • Ability to research and analyse news and factual information, with strong skills in fact-checking and distilling insights into clear, audience-friendly stories.
  • Comfortable crafting concise, impactful narratives that bring news and facts to life in social-first video formats.
  • Keen sense of storytelling, pacing, and visual composition with interest in current affairs, news, and social issues.
  • Creative thinker with a strong sense of what resonates with digital audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with creative teams.
