Medical Coding Specialist

Job Summary:

A Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for translating doctor's notes and medical records into universal codes used by insurance companies and healthcare systems. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terms and guidelines to maintain precision and compliance in coding practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate medical records into universal codes used by insurance companies and healthcare systems.
  • Ensure accurate coding to guarantee correct billing and timely payments for healthcare providers.
  • Apply knowledge of medical terms and guidelines to maintain precision and compliance in coding practices.
  • Play a crucial role behind the scenes in ensuring the smooth operation of the healthcare billing process.
  • Maintain high levels of performance in coding accuracy and productivity while adhering to required standards.
  • Identify and assign appropriate CPT and ICD-9 Codes for Physician and facility services provided in Observation and Inpatient settings, providing feedback to Providers.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Active AHIMA or AAPC Medical Coding Certification (CPC-A, CPC, CIC, CCS, COC)
  • Experience in coding from paper charts as well as EMR
  • Understanding of ICD-9 or ICD-10 Coding in relation to HCC/Risk Adjustment Coding
