Accounting Manager Role

As a key member of our team, you will oversee the financial accounting and transaction processing functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all financial statements.

You will lead the month-end close process, review final profit & loss (P&L) scrub, and ensure the accuracy of the balance sheet workbook. Additionally, you will review and update financial notes, charts, graphs, and footnotes to ensure alignment with KPIs and executive summaries.

Key responsibilities include leading budgeting and forecasting efforts, providing financial insights and recommendations, and updating and maintaining cash flow forecasts regularly.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of accounting experience in financial close, variance analysis, and payroll processing. They must be fluent in English, possess strong technical knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Advanced Excel skills, and have a strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.

This is a full-time remote position with unlimited PTO policy, including all holidays. The working hours are 9 am to 5 pm EST with varying flexibility. You will also receive one month of paid training in advanced accounting, U.S. GAAP, and QuickBooks Online, full access to learning materials, and career development through mentoring and training opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring adherence to the timeline and checklist.
  • Review final profit & loss (P&L) scrub and approve journal entries prepared by staff.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the balance sheet workbook, including spot-checking source document filing.
  • Review and update financial notes, charts, graphs, and footnotes to ensure alignment with KPIs and executive summaries.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial reports through variance analysis.
  • Review staff-prepared financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure financial accuracy and consistency across all reports and KPIs.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management:
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts for real estate projects, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support cost-saving initiatives and revenue growth.
  • Update and maintain cash flow forecasts regularly.
Accounting Operations & Oversight:
  • Manage recurring weekly accounting processes as outlined by the controller.
  • Review customer invoicing, vendor bills, and process payments.
  • Approve and submit payroll.
  • Perform chart of accounts reviews and reclassify contributions/distributions to retained earnings as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering development in real estate accounting practices.
  • Collaborate with departments including property management, acquisitions, and finance to ensure effective financial operations and decision-making.
Process Improvement & Client Advisory:
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and provide actionable recommendations to clients.
  • Maintain strong financial integrity, proactively troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Tools, Communication & Task Management:
  • Refine financial models and improve data structure in Excel.
  • Manage tasks using Asana and track time entries in Bizinta with detailed descriptions.
  • Organize and manage the accounting email inbox to ensure timely and accurate handling of financial documents.
