Job Purpose:

The Trainer conducts medical coding education for new and existing medical coders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop modules for medical coding and billing training (ICD-10-CM, CPT, E/M coding)
  • Develop curriculum and training syllabus related to coding and billing training programs
  • Maintain knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines
  • Update existing training modules
  • Develop materials for inpatient medical coding exercises, assessment, and qualifying examination
  • Consolidate coder scores from quizzes, exams, and assessments
  • Maintain certifications of the staff by providing continuing education units
  • Provide training and review for onboarding coders and refresher training for tenured coders
  • Disseminate changes and updates in guidelines and rules
  • Collaborate with workgroups to resolve issues
  • Possess knowledge of, understanding of, and compliance with all policies and procedures
  • Participate in monthly calibration training
  • Create assessments to check learnings from calibration training
  • Consolidate coder scores from calibration assessment
  • Assist QA Supervisor and QATM with account launch
  • Provide support and feedback for TNA, RCA, and educational note creation for QA Team
  • Audit QA staff to monitor their respective coding and auditing accuracy
