Job Description

The Construction Estimator will review construction plans, perform detailed takeoffs and create estimates of the scope. This plays a crucial role in defining the project's scope of work for the project management team and controlling construction costs.

This involves reviewing plans to identify missing or conflicting scope/detail related to successful constructability of the project, gathering and organizing all available information related to the project, and exploring information to identify any issues that may arise during the project execution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing construction documents and plans to identify potential issues;
  • Creating detailed estimates of the scope of work, including material, labor and equipment required to complete the project;
  • Working with the project management team to review and finalize takeoff data;
  • Role evolving into inputting takeoffs into an estimate in Excel for use in the buyout and execution phases of the work;

Required Skills and Qualifications

A degree in construction, engineering, business management/finance/accounting or similar fields is preferred but not required based on level of experience and aptitude. Knowledge of commercial construction components, ability to understand and learn/interpret construction drawings, specifications, and renderings are also essential.

Commercial construction experience across multiple trades is preferred, as well as experience working with U.S based clients. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with heavy emphasis in Excel, as well as electronic takeoff software, is necessary.

Additional requirements include being a critical thinker and problem solver, able to multitask and prioritize effectively, and having strong communication skills.
