Geospatial Data Scientist Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced geospatial data scientist to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work with a market-leading SaaS technology platform serving the global network construction industry.

About the Role

  • This position is ideal for a mid-level developer who thrives on solving real-world problems and creating solutions that drive operational efficiency.
  • The successful candidate will have experience designing, building, and maintaining internal tools and automation systems that streamline workflows for operations teams and enhance the customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design, Develop, and Maintain Internal Tools and Scripts: Utilize Python to support operations workflows by designing, developing, and maintaining internal tools and scripts.
  2. ETL Process Development: Develop and optimize ETL processes for spatial data into relational databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  3. Data Transformation and Processing Pipelines: Automate data transformation and processing pipelines to improve efficiency and maintainability.
  4. Collaboration and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with operations and product teams to identify opportunities for tool development and automation, and troubleshoot and support internal tools and workflows in both production and development environments.
  5. Code Quality Assurance: Ensure code quality through version control, testing, code reviews, and comprehensive documentation.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant engineering field.
  2. Professional Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Python development.
  3. Geospatial Skills: Hands-on experience with geospatial tools such as QGIS, PyQGIS, or GIS libraries like GDAL/OGR, Shapely, or GeoPandas.
  4. Scripting and Automation: Demonstrated experience in scripting and automating data processing tasks.
  5. SQL and Relational Databases: Proficient in SQL and relational databases, with a preference for PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
  6. Problem-Solving and Communication: Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work independently from concept through to delivery, and effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
