Technical Drafter Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient professional with specialized experience in furniture production to join our team.

In this role, you will be responsible for transforming concepts and specifications into precise technical drawings that guide the fabrication and assembly of custom furniture products. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and production staff to ensure that all technical documentation meets both aesthetic and functional standards.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in drafting, deep knowledge of materials and construction methods used in furniture making, and the ability to work efficiently in a collaborative environment.

  • About This Role:
    • Create detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings and schematics using CAD software.
    • Translate design concepts and sketches into fully dimensioned production-ready technical documents.
    • Prepare exploded views, assembly instructions, and component lists to support fabrication and installation processes.
    • Maintain organized documentation of all revisions, drawings, and technical records.
  • Furniture Production Coordination:
    • Collaborate with furniture designers and production teams to ensure technical drawings align with design intent, manufacturing capabilities, and material specifications.
    • Review and adjust designs for structural integrity, ergonomics, and material efficiency.
    • Provide technical support during prototyping, fabrication, and installation phases.
    • Troubleshoot design or material issues that arise during production.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure all designs comply with applicable safety and quality standards, including load requirements and material tolerances.
    • Perform checks on all drawings before release to ensure dimensional accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
    • Work with vendors and suppliers to verify component compatibility and cost-efficiency.
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in technical drafting, specifically in the furniture manufacturing industry preferred.
    • Strong understanding of woodworking techniques, joinery, materials, and hardware used in furniture production.
    • Familiarity with CNC production workflows, material optimization, and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
    • Proficient in CAD software and able to interpret architectural and design drawings.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
