Purchasing Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Purchasing Manager role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the purchasing group. This position will provide essential support to production planning and control on all supply issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong management, leadership, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to recognize problems, analyze, and recommend solutions. Excellent communication, relationship building, and interpersonal skills are also crucial for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all purchasing functions related to negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and purchasing systems.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials and supplies.
  • Ensure materials are ordered and in stock to meet build requirements, while maintaining acceptable inventory levels.
  • Develop material schedules and plan requirements for purchasing materials, using MRP and other planning systems.
  • Work closely with customers and other sites to transition materials for new products.
  • Work closely with internal groups, including engineering, quality, and sales to ensure functional specifications are met, parts are available as needed, and product quality is maintained.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
  • APICS/CPIM certification preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years relevant experience, with significant materials-related technical experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience in semi-con industry preferred.

Management Experience:

  • 2 years management experience.
