Job Description

The Finance Associate is responsible for assisting the Finance Department in maintaining the general ledger. Additionally, the Finance Associate is responsible for assisting the CFO, Head of Payroll, Finance Manager, Treasury Manager & Accounting Manager in supervising other areas within the Finance Department, as directed, including purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, following all related local and corporate policies and procedures.



Employment Type: Full-time
Schedule: Mon - Fri (8.00am -5.00pm) SL time
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, Colombo

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Tertiary qualification (degree/diploma) Business Commerce / Financial Management an advantage. CPA preferred.

Required Years' Experience:

  • 2 years' experience in a financial bookkeeping/accounts payable position
Required Professional & Other Qualifications:
  • Must have the fundamental knowledge of accounting, credit, and debits.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Working knowledge of Excel is a must as well as a solid mathematical aptitude and well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams, negotiate for resources and influence stakeholders, and to gain acceptance of and commitment to plans, ideas, and initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to prepare and deliver reports, invoices, effective presentations, and excellent customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams, negotiate for resources and influence stakeholders, and to gain acceptance of and commitment to plans, ideas, and initiatives.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to assist other departments if needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure without losing quality and attention to detail.
  • Highest level of integrity and transparency.
  • Trustworthy and discreet when dealing with confidential information.

Complexity of Work:

  • Highly complex work procedures that require advanced professional expertise or knowledge in a functional area/specialty. Must understand and apply discipline best practices. This position does not manage staff.

  • A finance associate must possess comprehensive information regarding the financial policies and facilities provided to customers.
  • A finance associate is responsible for having a complete overview of the plans developed by the finance department, client records, corresponding investments, interest rates, and facilities.
  • The finance associate plays a crucial professional role in determining the annual budget and during audit meetings.
  • A finance associate needs to have reports of all financial documents and accounting records, maintaining them in an ordered manner for easy reference when required. The official must also ensure that all documentation is authentic and contains proper and complete details.
  • Finance associates may have to deal with external agents of the company, such as stakeholders, partners, shareholders, prospective clients, creditors, and other organizations related to the respective firm in terms of finance and business-making.
  • Ensure all payments are made correctly and with the correct authorization (approved PO), evidence of receipt, invoice, or delivery slip, and an Accounts Payable stamp.
  • Responsible for end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Maintain Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable ledgers up to date.
  • Verify prices, quantities, and extensions against the purchase order as required, and initial the invoice when verified.
