Process Safety Engineer

The Entry Level Project Engineer provides engineering support for our process safety and risk management clients in the chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and energy industries.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Creating and updating technical documentation related to safety and risk management programs
2. Understanding and be knowledgeable in US Federal and State regulations associated with chemical process safety (i.e., OSHA Process Safety Management, EPA Risk Management Plan, California Accidental Release Prevention Program)
3. Providing support and participating in safety and risk analyses such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
4. Participating in engineering and general design review with a client as required
5. Preparing and organizing engineering drawings and other engineering documentation
6. Completing dispersion modeling and determining offsite impacts based on the area of impact
7. Performing engineering calculations as it relates to process safety hazards and general engineering
8. Review client documents such as piping and instrumentation diagrams, chemical inventory list, operating and maintenance procedures, etc.
9. Preparing scope of work for projects
10. Working with the company to define problem areas and implement product and service improvements based on feedback and metrics
11. Performing liaison function between clients and project members, if assigned to lead a project
12. Interacting with clients about process safety and risk management and answering any questions or problems they may have
13. Collaborating with other project engineers in the company to complete projects that require a team
14. Keeping supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments using approved technologies (e.g. Asana, Slack and Email)
15. Performing other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering only
2. Able to work in a very fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects
3. Able to work on shifting schedule
4. Able to work independently with minimal supervision
5. Able to work collaboratively with other team members
6. Demonstrate strong commitment to professional development
7. Proficient with Office 365 Application
8. Able to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
9. Able to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
10. Able to write presentations and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; ability to make effective and persuasive arguments and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors; ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases
11. Able to apply engineering first principles, as well as basic to advanced levels of probability and statistics
12. Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
13. Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
14. Able to travel at least 25% of the year
