
Heavy Equipment Mechanic

A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing the company's fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. This role requires expertise in hydraulic systems and mechanical repairs to ensure optimal performance and safety standards. The mechanic conducts regular inspections, promptly resolves mechanical issues, documents all repairs, and collaborates closely with the Motor pool team to enhance fleet operations.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Diagnostics and Repairs. Perform diagnostics and repairs on company vehicles and equipment, including trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery
- Inspections: Conduct routine inspections to proactively identify and address electrical and mechanical issues
- Assessment: Assess trucks and heavy equipment to determine necessary parts and materials for repairs
- Evaluation: Evaluate the condition of heavy equipment and recommend usage or disposal
- Maintenance: Perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake adjustments to ensure vehicle functionality
- Coordination: Coordinate with the Motor pool team to prioritize tasks and efficiently address maintenance needs
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all repair and maintenance activities
- Operation: Safely operate company vehicles and equipment to transport materials, personnel and equipment to designated locations
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Motor pool team to optimize fleet operations and uphold safety standards
- Assistance: Assist in other duties within the Motor pool department as assigned by the supervisor or management
- Perform other tasks as assigned by immediate superior from time to time
Job requirements and qualifications
- Proven experience of at least three (3) years in relation to the role
- Proficiency in hydraulic systems and mechanical repairs
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Ability to conduct thorough inspections and identify potential issues
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards
- Excellent coordination and teamwork abilities
- Effective communication and documentation skills
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and vehicles safely
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical repairs, and maintenance practices for heavy equipment and vehicles
- Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing electrical and mechanical issues using advanced tools and techniques
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of engine mechanics, transmissions, brake systems, and other key components of heavy machinery and vehicles
- Safety Awareness: Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations, procedures, and best practices in equipment maintenance and repair
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems and implement effective solutions promptly
- Inspection Proficiency: Skilled in conducting detailed inspections to identify potential issues and ensure equipment is in optimal working condition
- Maintenance Skills: Competence in performing routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake adjustments
- Technical Documentation: Ability to document repair work, maintenance activities, and parts usage accurately
- Team Collaboration: Strong ability to work collaboratively with the Motor pool team and other departments to ensure smooth fleet operations
- Communication: Effective communication skills to clearly convey technical information to colleagues and supervisors
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and handle multiple responsibilities
